The uncertain political situation in Lebanon has forced authorities in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Kuwait to warn their citizens against travelling to the country while also urging those living there to leave as soon as possible.

A source quoting the Saudi foreign ministry said: “Due to the situations in the Republic of Lebanon, the official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Saudi nationals visiting or residing in Lebanon are asked to leave the country as soon as possible.

“The Kingdom advised all citizens not to travel to Lebanon from any other international destinations.”

Hours after the statement by the Saudi foreign ministry, Kuwait and the UAE also urged its nationals to leave Lebanon immediately- a move which also came after Bahrain – an ally of Saudi Arabia – had already ordered its citizens to leave Lebanon on Sunday.

There has been political upheaval in Lebanon after Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri resigned citing Iranian influence across the region as one of his reasons for throwing in the towel.

His resignation unavoidably brought down the coalition government in the country and plunged it into fresh political crisis.

In a speech televised from Saudi Arabia, Hariri accused Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of sowing strife in the Arab world saying he believed there was an assassination plot against him.
